There’s a lot of chatter right now about consumer confidence dipping to a seven-month low, and I know headlines like these can make the whole idea of moving feel a bit daunting. In mid-Q3, folks felt better about current conditions, but worries about income, jobs, and business over the next few months led to an overall drop in confidence. The present-conditions index actually rose by about 7 points to 121, but the expectations gauge slipped down by roughly 6 points to 68—falling below the mark that’s often linked to recession concerns. Early in the quarter, employers cut 23,000 jobs and unemployment nudged up to around 4%, though that was mostly because more people left the workforce, not because hiring picked up.
What’s interesting from where I sit as a REALTOR® is that, even with all this uncertainty, homebuying expectations only eased slightly in mid-Q3—and actually kept climbing. Around 61% of people still expect interest rates to rise, and with policymakers holding rates steady, borrowing costs seem likely to stay elevated through the end of the year. For buyers and sellers in Northeast Florida, clarity and steady guidance are more important than ever. My approach has always been to listen first and help my clients navigate these shifts with honest advice and local know-how, so you can move forward with confidence no matter what the headlines say.
